We are being Joined in a traditional Lakota joining ceremony. The way of the Lakota people that we have been taught is to honor all things. In that honoring we are also honoring the four directions West, North, East, and South which relate to the four stations in life-childhood, adolescence, adulthood and elder. We also are using the traditional Chanupa (pipe) as a way of prayerful joining of our relationship. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Before we are Joined in Ceremony Kelly and Ricardo will enter a private Sweatlodge for purification. This is a way of praying in "The womb of the Mother" returning to our most humble simple way, the way in which we entered the world, without metal jewelry and fancy clothing. With a towel and shorts around us for modesty we will sit on the Earth and pray together in this Lodge about our committments to one another. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> The Chanupa Honors the Earth (feminine) in the Bowl of the Chanupa made from pipestone from the Dakotas, and the Sky (masculine) the stem of the Chanupa made from the trees which reach to the heavens. By bringing these two things together we create a sacred union of feminine and masculine. It is into that pipe that we place our prayers and release them to Spirit in the smoking of it. The Chanupa (pipe) smoking will be done by Kelly and Ricardo. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> While the Chanupa is out during the ceremony there is a traditional request that women who are in their cycle (moontime) are in a seperate ceremonial place. There is a building built by many many devoted hands that is called the Ancestors Lodge where a fire will be provided if needed and chairs and blankets will create a personal space for women to be together who are on their "Moon". Once the Chanupa is not being used in the Ceremony and is away from the common space we will all join together again in celebration. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> So with a little Lakota 101 we welcome you to our ceremony and ask that if you have any questions or concerns that you let us know, come and enjoy yourselves, Celebrate with us...WOPILA!

GIFT REGISTRY
We have been asked where we are registered, and although gifts are not expected we thought we'd register someplace to avoid 4 toasters!

GAIAM- A company whose vision and mission statement on their home page is worth checking out.
Erase the environmental impact of shipping your Gaiam order, and do something simple yet significant to help slow global warming. Your Go Zero contribution of just $2 enables our partner The Conservation Fund to plant a tree that, over its lifetime, will absorb more than one ton of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. That’s enough to offset the emissions resulting from shipping a 200-pound package from Los Angles to New York.

ENVIRONMENTAL BUILDING SUPPLY- We are setting up an account with this local company so that any gift amount will go towards our purchase of Recycled Glass tiles for our remodel of the bathroom  or maybe finish the floors with Bamboo.
